For Maria Angela Moreira, teaching Brazilian Portuguese is about much more than learning a new language — it’s about creating connections between people and cultures.
As one of ACE MV’s Brazilian Portuguese instructors, Maria Angela loves bringing the diversity, history, music, art, traditions, and everyday life of Brazil into the classroom. “More than teaching Portuguese, I want to inspire my students to become curious about Brazil beyond the stereotypes,” she says.
Her advice for language learners? Be curious, be consistent, and don’t be afraid to make mistakes. The students she sees succeed are the ones willing to try, ask questions, laugh, and try again.
Teaching is also a two-way exchange for Maria Angela. “While I teach, I am constantly learning from my students,” she shares. “This exchange of experiences keeps me alive, curious, and always learning.”
Whether through language, culture, community programs, or her explorations of Martha’s Vineyard, there is one thread connecting the many things Maria Angela loves to do: bringing people a little closer together.
