Workforce ESOL

Our new Language Access Workforce programming includes industry-specific ESL classes and job-readiness workshops in areas such as business skills and digital literacy.

Participants of this program have access to the innovative digital language-learning platform, EnGen. Delivered in a cohort-learning model with wraparound support available. Examples of the industries included in the platform:

• Healthcare: Courses include Introduction to English for Certified Nursing Assistants, General Healthcare for Beginners, and much more. 
• Education: Instruction will focus on vocabulary for communication with children, parents, and staff, emphasizing childcare, health, and safety.
• Building & Technical Trades: Specialized ESL courses will prepare workers for safe, effective participation in the trades. Trainings include OSHA regulations, worksite safety, soft skills, and workplace communication, delivered through the digital platform, EnGen.

Additional Programs

• ESL Teacher Training Cohort: Participants complete a 120-hour training to prepare them to serve as future educators on the Island! With wraparound support, study groups, and hands-on teaching experience, this program is open to bilingual residents with a 4-year college degree.
• Career Readiness Workshop Series (offered in Brazilian Portuguese):
  • Tax Preparation (“Workshop de Preparação de Impostos”)
  • How to Start a Business (“Master Como Abrir Seu Próprio Negócio”)
  • Financial Literacy (“Educação Financeira”)
